A whimsical dark comedy about hope, second chances and never giving up. Actor Arcady has spent the last ten years playing the role of a Rabbit in ramshackle children's theatre in a small provincial town in Russia. The demoralized actors play mundane roles and chase lost dreams with vodka and despair. Arcady understands that the part of Rabbit will be the only part in his actor's life, but his soul cries out for real art. One day a sponsor appears in the theatre offering money for a new performance. Unexpectedly Arcady gets the leading role. The Rabbit experiences fleeting happiness, until the sponsors start interfereing. Whether Arcady can manage to hold on to his self-esteem, or even his life, depends on him.
Director Slava Ross brings this melancholic farce to life with a host of colourful characters and superb cinematography.
The film is a rare mix of a French drama, English humor and Russian depression…Withnail & I meets Delicatessen in a Russian folk tale setting.
