Matt Damon plays Will Hunting, a twenty year old from a rough neighbourhood in South Boston.
He posseses a brilliant mind, capable of mathematical feats which would confound Nobel
laureates, he can instantly recalls obscure historical references yet he has had no college education.
However, Hunting's remarkable talents have been unable to provide him with anything better
than menial work in his local bar, and he and his friends often find themselves tussling
with the law When a bar fight leaves Hunting awaiting gaol, he finds himself unable to talk his way out. His only possible salvation comes in the unlikely shape of Sean McGuire - played by Robin Williams - a therapist and former college professor, who admires the young man's emotional struggles and understands the difficulties that Hunting must endure.
